In 1965, Tamkang University received approval to establish the Department of Banking. At its inception, the department was the Banking Division of the Department of Banking and Insurance. Beginning in 1973, banking and insurance became separate disciplines, and the Department of Banking became an independent academic department.<\/p>\n
To meet the needs of national economic development and industrial and commercial growth, the department continuously strengthened its faculty and enriched students\u2019 theoretical knowledge of monetary banking and economics. It also placed emphasis on various aspects of professional practice so that students could apply what they learned and become banking professionals.<\/p>\n
To strengthen instruction and promote the integration of theory and practice, the university established a training bank in 1967 in the urban campus building. In 1969, it further established the Tamsui Branch on the main campus, specifically for banking students to gain practical experience in banking operations.<\/p>\n
The department\u2019s curriculum has likewise always emphasized the integration of theory and practice. Unnecessary overlapping courses were eliminated, and a range of theoretical and practical courses related to economics and banking were introduced. These courses provide students with fundamental theoretical knowledge as a foundation for advanced study and the improvement of banking practices.<\/p>\n
In 1988, the department was approved to change its name to the Department of Finance and Banking<\/strong><\/b>. In the future, the department will pursue balanced development in teaching, research, and service. Faculty expertise and research areas encompass finance, investment, banking, financial derivatives, financial innovation, financial engineering, and other finance-related fields. The curriculum covers corporate finance, investment, financial institution management, international finance, and related areas. It aims to equip students with the fundamental academic knowledge and abilities required of professional managers in financial investment, banking, and international finance. The department also strengthens students\u2019 training in the application of financial information technology hardware and software and enhances their ability to apply quantitative and mathematical methods.<\/p>\n In 1986, the department established the master\u2019s program of the Graduate Institute of Finance. After the doctoral program was established in 1998, the department\u2019s academic development became more comprehensive. To cultivate financial leadership talent among working professionals, the department established an in-service master\u2019s program in 2000. In the same year, the Evening Division was transformed into the Second Division Continuing Education Bachelor\u2019s Program.<\/p>\n In the 2003 academic year, the former Graduate Institute of Finance<\/strong><\/b> was renamed the Graduate Institute of Finance and Banking<\/strong><\/b>, giving the department and graduate institute the same name. In the same year, to reflect the latest developments in finance and banking, the master\u2019s program replaced its original Monetary and Banking Group<\/strong><\/b> and Financial Management Group<\/strong><\/b> with the Finance and Banking Group<\/strong><\/b> and Financial Engineering Group<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n In 2015, in response to the development of Taiwan\u2019s financial industry, the master\u2019s program reorganized its groups into the Finance and Banking Group<\/strong><\/b> and the Financial Practice Group<\/strong><\/b>. The department now offers a comprehensive range of academic programs, providing diverse learning environments for students with different educational needs.<\/p>\n The department of Banking and Finance was established in 1965 as a section of the department of Banking and Insurance.<\/p>\n In 1973, the department of Banking and Insurance was divided into two departments, department of Banking and department of Insurance,<\/p>\n The Graduate Institute of Money, Banking and Finance, established in 1986, offers the degree of Master of Business,<\/p>\n The department of Banking was further renamed to the present one as the department of Banking and Finance in 1988.<\/p>\n Ph.D. degree in Finance was further to offered since 1998, which expanded our program considerably.<\/p>\n The Executive Master\u2019s Program of Business Administration(EMBA) in Finance was established in 2000 for the need of financial industry.<\/p>\n In year 2000, the night school of this department was transformed to continuing education undergraduate program, which offers one class each year.<\/p>\n The Graduate Institute of Money, Banking and Finance was renamed to the present one as the Gradate Institute of Banking and Finance in 2003.<\/p>\n In year 2003, the two sub-majors in the Graduate program, Banking and Finance, are redesigned to Finance and Financial Engineering to pursue the progress of Financial industry.<\/p>\n To meet the development of financial industry in Taiwan, in 2015, the degree of Master of Business was re-organized into two divisions: theoretical finance division and practical finance division.<\/p>\n Doctoral Program in Finance Industry and Business Management was established in 2017.<\/p>\n In 2018, theoretical finance division and practical finance division in the degree of Master of Business were merged.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In 1965, Tamkang University received approval to establish the Department of Banking.
