Registration and Check-in
New Student Registration

  • Date: The list of admitted new students has been submitted to the Ministry of Education. Upon receipt, the Ministry of Education will forward the list to the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for notification to Taiwan’s overseas missions. The registration date will be announced separately, and admitted students will also be notified accordingly.
  • Location: Registration will be conducted online, but students are still required to visit the T805 office to check in and submit documents.

Leizhu International Dormitory

  1. Air Conditioning and Heating: Each room is equipped with air conditioning and a fan (users are responsible for the costs).
  2. Internet: Each room has a local network connection point, and the entire building is covered by wireless internet signal.
  3. Transportation: Located on campus, close to the bus stop, with convenient transportation.
  4. Rent: The accommodation fee is NT$11,877 per person per semester, with an additional NT$3,000 management fee, NT$2,000 cleaning deposit, and NT$300 key deposit.
  5. Access Control: Students use their student ID as a pass to enter and exit the dormitory.
  6. Visitors: Visitors are allowed from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and may only stay in the public areas.

Tuition Payment
After arriving in Taiwan, you can pay the tuition by presenting the payment slip (or you may print the tuition fee payment slip online at https://school.ctbcbank.com/cstu/get_school_list.do).

Payment methods:

  • Credit card
  • ATM transfer at the four major convenience stores
  • China Trust Bank
  • Post office counter
  • Post office

Health Check
In accordance with Article 8 of the School Health Law, the university conducts health checks for students. There are two options for completing the health check, please choose one:1. School Group Health Check: Please first fill out the questionnaire and basic information on the system at the following website: http://country.org.tw/unit_physical.php. After completing the form, a QR code will appear. Bring this QR code to the designated health check location at the scheduled time (Location: Women’s Dormitory, Songtao Food Plaza). After payment, the vendor will issue a “Health Check Information Card” for the health check. The health check fee is NT$600 per person, payable on the day of the health check.2. Self-arranged Health Check: Please visit the Health Services Office website to download the “Health Check Information Card.” Go to an accredited public or private hospital to complete the health check and have the hospital stamp the certificate. Keep a copy of the certificate for yourself. Submit the health check documents to the Health Services Office (M111, below the Maritime Museum) within one month after the semester starts to complete the health check process.Note: For students from Hong Kong and Macau, due to the residence permit application requirements, the Hong Kong and Macau Student Association will assist in arranging the health check at the hospital after arrival.For more information about the health check, please visit the Health Services Office website: http://spirit.tku.edu.tw/tku/main.jsp?sectionId=6#Body

Residence Visa and Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

A visa is a necessary document for entering Taiwan. We recommend that international degree students apply for a residence visa, as it is also the required document for applying for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) later. Even if you are from a country that does not require a visa to stay in Taiwan, we still suggest that you apply for a residence visa. Otherwise, you may need to exit Taiwan or go through other procedures to apply for the ARC.

1. Change of Visa: Visitor Visa → Residence Visa (Visa Code: FS)

If you enter Taiwan with a visitor visa and need to stay for more than 180 days to study, please apply for a residence visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs. (If you already hold a residence visa, please proceed to section 2).
You can apply to change to a residence visa within 7 working days before the expiration of your visitor visa.

Required Documents & Fees:

  1. Complete the application form online: https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw (General visa A). Please consult your counselor.
  2. Passport and visa, valid for at least six months (original and a photocopy).
  3. Tamkang University admission permit (original and a photocopy).
  4. Student ID or temporary student ID (original and photocopy, with a registered seal on the photocopy).
  5. Health certificate (original and photocopy). This certificate must be issued within three months. If conducted abroad, you must have it authenticated by a Taiwanese embassy or representative office, or complete it in Taiwan at a designated hospital.
  6. Two 2-inch color photos with a white background (taken within six months, with the head size 3.2cm-3.6cm).
  7. Application fee: NT$3,000; for U.S. passport holders: NT$5,600.
  8. Processing time: 7-10 days.

Medical Exam (Form B) Requirements:

  1. Do not eat for 8 hours before the exam.
  2. Required tests: X-ray and blood tests.
  3. Exam time: 8:30-11:00.
  4. Bring three 2-inch color photos with a white background.
  5. Bring your passport, valid for more than six months.
  6. The cost is about NT$2,200.

2. Residence Visa → Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

If you enter Taiwan with a residence visa or have already changed to a residence visa, you must apply for the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and re-entry permit at the local National Immigration Agency service station within 15 days of arrival. Failure to do so will result in a fine.
First-time students arriving in Taiwan before registration will be issued a 6-month ARC, which will be extended after registration.

  1. Application form (if someone else applies on your behalf, include a letter of authorization).
  2. One 2-inch color photo with a white background (front-facing, no hat, 3.2cm-3.6cm from head to chin).
  3. Passport and entry visa (original and a photocopy).
  4. Student ID and enrollment certificate (original and a photocopy with a registration stamp).
  5. Application fee: NT$1,000 for one year.
  6. Processing time: 7-10 days.

3. Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) Address Change

If you need to change your residence address, you must do so within 15 days. You will need to bring your old ARC, but the student status certificate is not required.

4. Lost Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

If you lose your ARC, apply for a replacement at the National Immigration Agency service station.
Required documents:

  1. Police report.
  2. Application form.
  3. One 2-inch color photo with a white background (front-facing, no hat).
  4. Passport and entry visa (original and a photocopy).
  5. Student ID (original and a photocopy with a registration stamp).
  6. Admission notice (original and a photocopy).
  7. Application fee: NT$500-1,000.
  8. Proof of residence.
  9. Enrollment certificate.

5. Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) Extension

Required Documents for Extension:

  1. Application form.
  2. Passport and ARC (original and a photocopy).
  3. Student ID (original and a photocopy with a registration stamp).
  4. Application fee: NT$1,000 for one year.
  5. Processing time: 7-10 working days.

Important Notes:

  1. Students applying for an extension within the academic period must submit their student ID or enrollment certificate. If registration is not processed, you can apply for a one-year extension without the registration certificate.
  2. Graduates wishing to stay in Taiwan to search for a job should submit their graduation certificate for an extension, which will be valid for six months after the graduation month.
  3. Failure to apply for an extension within the deadline may result in fines and the cancellation of your residence status, along with being ordered to leave the country.

6. National Immigration Agency (NIA)

The NIA has service stations across Taiwan.

7. Visitor Visa Extension

If you enter Taiwan with a 60-day or 90-day visitor visa, you must apply for an extension 15 days before it expires. The stay period starts the day after your entry, and it will be extended if it falls on a holiday.

Required Documents:

  1. Application form
  2. Passport and visa (valid for at least six months, original and a photocopy).
  3. Tamkang University admission permit (original and a photocopy).
  4. Student ID (original and a photocopy with a registration stamp).
  5. One 2-inch color photo (front-facing, no hat, 3.2cm-3.6cm).
  6. Proof of accommodation (consult your counselor).

Insurance

National Health Insurance (NHI)
According to the National Health Insurance Act, all foreign students who hold a residence permit and have lived in Taiwan for more than six months (6 months of continuous residence in Taiwan or with one trip abroad not exceeding 30 days when the actual residency period of 6 months is reached after the days abroad have been deducted). must participate in the National Health Insurance program. The health insurance fee (NT$4,956 per semester) will be included in the semester’s tuition and fees, which must be paid during registration.

For Overseas Students with Proof of Financial Difficulty:
Overseas students who have a “Certificate of Financial Difficulty” issued by their home country are eligible for a subsidy from the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC). If you submit a copy of this certificate to the Overseas Student Affairs Office, you will only need to pay NT$2,478 per semester.

Insurance for Students Not Eligible for NHI:
For students who are not yet eligible for the National Health Insurance, the school will provide a student accident insurance (similar to NHI) during the registration process.

Cathay Group Medical Insurance
In accordance with Taiwan’s health insurance regulations, all international students who stay in Taiwan for more than six months are required to enroll in the National Health Insurance program. For the first six months, the school will automatically enroll you in the Cathay Group Medical Insurance, which offers coverage similar to NHI.

Insurance Fees:
These insurance fees will be collected along with tuition and fees.

Insurance Coverage:
For international students participating in this insurance, if you need medical care due to illness or injury during the valid period (typically six months), you need to ensure that your medical treatments are not excluded by the policy.

Reimbursement Process:
If you need to file a medical claim, please request the hospital to provide a diagnosis certificate and receipt. You will also need to prepare the following documents for reimbursement:

  • Original receipt of payment
  • Original diagnosis certificate
  • Copy of your postal savings account passbook cover
  • Insurance claim application form (download and complete it from the website)
  • Copy of your residence permit

Submission and Processing:
Please bring all the documents to the T1001 office (located on the 10th floor of the Jing Sheng Building) between 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Thursdays. The insurance company will review the documents, and once everything is confirmed, the reimbursement will be processed. The reimbursement amount will be transferred to your postal account within approximately four weeks.

Note:
For outpatient claims, reimbursement is limited to one claim per day for the same symptoms, with a maximum reimbursement of NT$1,000 per day (excluding registration fees).

After your arrival in Taiwan, the International Student Support Office has organized a series of welcome events to greet international students and help you get familiar with the campus. These include:

  • Welcome Banquet (Date to be announced)
  • Other Activities (Details to be announced)

To provide continuous support for international students throughout the semester, designated mentors are assigned to offer guidance and care. They assist with academic inquiries, monitor students’ adaptation to life, support interpersonal interactions, encourage participation in extracurricular activities, remind students about visa applications and holiday arrangements, and relay important information.

First-year international degree students and those with an average academic score below 65 in the previous semester will receive greetings and interview invitations from their mentors. Please do not find this unexpected and make an effort to stay in touch with your mentor.
