Introduction

“Internationalization” is one of the three main strategies for the development of our university.
Since 1968 (Minguo Year 57), our university has successively signed academic cooperation agreements with major universities abroad and actively expanded international exchange and cooperation. In March 1978 (Minguo Year 67), the “Academic Exchange Committee” was formally established, responsible for researching and implementing the university’s international academic exchange programs and inviting Tamkang Lecturers.

On August 1, 1995 (Minguo Year 84), the Academic Exchange Committee was reorganized into the “International Exchange Committee,” chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. In addition to overseeing the university’s international academic exchange efforts, the committee also promoted short-term overseas study programs, student participation in international conferences, and involvement in international activities such as sports, culture, and student clubs. The goal was to comprehensively promote the university’s vision and objectives for internationalization, aligning its development with global trends.

In 1999 (Minguo Year 88), in order to accelerate the internationalization process, enhance international academic exchange, strengthen international cooperation and education, and raise academic standards, the university established the “Office of International Exchange and International Education” in addition to the existing International Exchange Committee. This office was dedicated to handling the university’s international academic cooperation.

In 2007 (Minguo Year 96), to further advance international exchange and speed up the internationalization process, the university created the position of Vice President for International Affairs. This role was responsible for supervising all operations of the Office of International Exchange and International Education. Additionally, the original “International Exchange Committee” and “Internationalization Committee” were merged into the “Committee for Internationalization and International Exchange,” chaired by the Vice President for International Affairs.

Currently, our university has signed academic exchange agreements with 284 universities worldwide, including those in Mainland China, the United States, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Argentina, Indonesia, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Lithuania, Slovenia, Latvia, Australia, New Zealand, Malawi, South Africa, and other 45 countries.

On August 1, 2011 (Minguo Year 100), in response to the Ministry of Education’s policies, the university began admitting degree-seeking students from Mainland China and strengthened cross-strait academic cooperation and exchange. The Office of International Exchange and International Education was renamed the “Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs” and was expanded to include two divisions: the “Division of International and Cross-Strait Exchange” and the “Division of Support Services for International Students.” On December 7, 2023 (Minguo Year 112), the university established the “Division of International Foundation Program,” also under the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs.

  • The Division of International and Cross-Strait Exchange is responsible for matters related to international and cross-strait cooperation and exchanges.

  • The Division of Support Services for International Students handles counseling and support for international students, overseas Chinese students, and Mainland Chinese students.

  • The Division of International Foundation Program oversees students’ academic and life support, Chinese language learning, and cultural exchange activities.
