Vice President of the University of Queensland Visits Tamkang, Aiming to Strengthen Collaborative Exchange

At 3:00 p.m. on March 19, Mr. Brett Lovegrove, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Partnerships) of Tamkang University’s sister school, the University of Queensland (Australia), visited the campus along with Professor Andrew Griffiths, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law; Mr. Michael Chen, Manager for the Greater China Region; and Mr. Ecci You, Senior International Liaison Officer. They were accompanied by Mr. Yang Shun-Fan, Officer from the Department of International and Cross-Strait Education, Ministry of Education. The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs arranged a tour of the University History Museum to introduce the visitors to Tamkang’s development and achievements, followed by a discussion session in room HC405.

The meeting was hosted by Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Hsiao-Chueh Chen. Department heads including Dr. Chao-Liang Chen (Economics), Dr. Jui-Min Tsai (English), Dr. Ping-Ju Juan (Tourism), and Dr. Ying-Long Chou (Public Policy and Management) also participated. Dr. Chen provided an overview of Tamkang’s educational philosophy and its current sister school partnerships, then invited department heads to share their students’ study abroad experiences in Australia during their junior year. The discussion addressed credit transfer and thesis issues within the existing dual degree programs and explored the possibility of expanding these programs to additional departments, leading to a lively and productive exchange.

Mr. Lovegrove praised Tamkang students for their excellence and creativity, highlighting the fruitful partnership since the two universities established sister school ties in 2007. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation in the future to enhance educational opportunities. He also noted that Australia will host the 2032 Olympics, which will increase demand for talent in sports and infrastructure development. Professor Griffiths echoed this sentiment, expressing a desire to explore more collaborative opportunities in the field of engineering.
